The Porcine Pardon: Hog Named Six Seven Granted Clemency by Miami-Dade Leader.
Although not quite at the identical stature as granting clemency to festive fowl, but the Miami-Dade County mayor conducted a ceremonial pardon event this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“This pig is innocent. She deserves this act of mercy. She has committed zero crimes,” stated the mayor in a speech with clear references to the extraordinary and sizable number of pardons issued from the start of the beginning of a second term in office.
“Unless you count eating six or seven apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “I hope she experiences a prosperous future without fear.”
The gathering, either celebrating or rejecting the area's customary feast of feasting on pork during the holidays, was created to mirror the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.
The swine, donated by a Coral Gables firefighter, was named for the popular vernacular phrase of young people yelling “six seven” – inspired by a musical verse – often without clear purpose. The trend became so pervasive that a leading lexicon site recently named “six-seven” its 2025 word of the year.
A Peaceful Retirement
Six Seven the pig is now destined to live out its days at a countryside refuge “away from grills and cookware”, according to the event’s official press release.
“The pig pardon has become a cherished method to begin the festive period,” said the cafe owner, in a notably cheerful message.
“It captures the essence of Miami: joyful, varied, and grounded in customs that foster togetherness. Each year, we are honored to observe heritage and mercy in a way only Miami can.”
Participants enjoyed a vegetarian menu of spinach fritters and cafecito as they marked Six Seven’s big moment.
