Slot Maintains He Is Safe and Has Liverpool's Backing After PSV Eindhoven Defeat
The Liverpool head coach conceded that it was understandable for questions to be asked about his future following a further convincing loss versus PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool suffered their ninth defeat in 12 matches, representing the team's worst streak after being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were taken apart by the Eredivisie title holders on a punishing night at their home ground.
“I feel secure, I'm fine, I've received plenty of backing from above,” the coach stated.
“It would be nice to change things and secure a win obviously but if you are coaching a team and not doing well then it's typical that questions are asked.”
He noted, “I accept my position. It is not the first time I’ve been in a difficult position but it's crucial that we improved our results.”
Conversations with The Board
When asked to expand on his dialogues with the team officials, Slot said:
“We talk a lot. They are helpful to the team and for me and those talks happen but they don't phone me every single minute each day to say they back me.”
He mentioned, “During our regular discussions I sense the confidence. However I haven’t spoken to them since this defeat so far so let’s see.”
Familiar Failings and Player Reaction
Slot expressed regret over recurring shortcomings from his squad in their Champions League loss, specifically missed opportunities and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was blunter in his assessment of the team's situation.
“I haven't got the solutions. Honestly, I don’t. I'm telling that to everyone,” Jones remarked.
“It's simply not good enough. I don’t even need to wait to consider it. I’m past being angry internally. I’m at the point currently where I just don’t have the words.”
He continued, “It's difficult because I’m playing for the team I support. I support them, and I’ve seen this club all my life.”
“In a long, long time, I've not seen a Liverpool team going through a phase such as this with results like these.”
He concluded, “But we still have the emblem on our shirts. And until it is removed, we'll continue to fight.”
“We’re going to try to get this team return to its rightful place, demonstrate to all again what Liverpool stands for and why people call it the greatest side in the planet.”
“However currently, we’re in the shit and we have to turn it around.”
