Eric Adams to Endorse Andrew Cuomo in NYC Mayor's Election

NYC's current mayor Eric Adams declared his plan to support Andrew Cuomo in the upcoming election for mayor, even after months of disagreements between the pair of Democrats.

A Surprising Reversal After Previous Accusations

Just last month, the mayor had lashed out at Cuomo, calling him a “deceptive figure and a untruthful person” and accusing him of having “a career of pushing Black candidates out of races.” Yet, in a recent statement, Adams made a U-turn, announcing he now plans to appear with Cuomo in neighborhoods where he holds strong support.

“I think that it is imperative to really wake up the communities of color that have experienced gentrification on how critical this election is,” Adams stated.

The mayor further explained, “They have watched their housing costs rise in terms of gentrification and they have been overlooked in those neighborhoods, and I’m going to go to those communities and speak one on one with community leaders and groups and I’m going to walk with the governor in those areas and get them engaged.”

Race Dynamics and Current Developments

The mayoral contest has so far been shaped by the struggle between Cuomo and progressive candidate his main rival, whose growing support has drawn interest worldwide and symbolized hopes for a rejuvenated leftwing of the Democratic party.

In a latest candidate forum, both the democratic socialist and Republican nominee Curtis Sliwa stated they would reject the mayor's support if offered.

Months ago, Adams had begun his re-election campaign as an unaffiliated candidate after facing federal corruption charges which were later dropped in return for his assistance with federal immigration raids across the city.

At an separate media briefing on the same day, the mayor responded to reporters asking about the support announcement by saying, “I'm meeting Andrew this evening.”

This development came a day after Adams and Cuomo were seen sitting courtside together at the the NBA team's first game at Madison Square Garden, which took place right after a heated candidate debate.
