A Limited-Edition Pokémon Card Aims to Curb the Influence Against Resellers

To celebrate the launch of a captivating new book Pokécology: An Illustrated Guide to Pokémon Ecology, a unique partnership has been formed. Pokémon's creators alongside London's Natural History Museum will launch a pop-up shop featuring special items. Enthusiasts can look forward to offerings including plush toys, art prints, and writing supplies that are inspired by the museum's aesthetic. For collectors, though, is a specially made Pikachu card, offered as a free bonus at the pop-up. The store is scheduled from on-site at the museum to its web counterpart from January 26 to April 19.

The Book That Inspires the Collaboration

Pokécology: An Illustrated Guide to Pokémon Ecology represents a much-awaited tome filled with beautiful illustrations depicting creatures in their wild environments. The concept is what a Pokémon Professor might publish once adventurers provide field notes, or a naturalist's journal could have sketched had the famous islands teemed with Pidgeys rather than birds. Part of the charm lies in the book's serious approach, treating Pokémon as a legitimate subject for inquiry. Author Yoshinari Yonehara together with artist Chihiro Kinoshita each possess doctorate degrees in animal behavior and ecology.

Why This Promo Card Different

The company regularly for The Pokémon Company to release promos for big events or brand collaborations. Many of these promotional cards often feature the famous electric rodent that acts as the series face. The factor setting this latest museum card is its unusually large dimensions. Although precise specs have not been publicly disclosed, its distribution is guaranteed to be strictly limited, and fans able to get just one card per purchase.

Curbing Reseller Activity

Per a company statement, some of the pop-up items will also be sold beyond the institution itself. But, a wider release is slated for specific stores in the United Kingdom. Importantly, collectors cannot purchase the card through the official web shop. Although reseller interest is inevitable, the setup suggests they will have a difficult time stockpiling large numbers on this occasion. For those feeling left out, there is the upcoming fossil-themed display coming to Chicago later this year.

"Every penny of sales made in the Museum shop and from its web shop, which covers these items, go toward the Natural History Museum’s non-profit work. This includes the research of 400 scientists who are scientific inquiry and finding answers to the planetary emergency," it says.
